Background:

Industrial Heaters maintains heating systems for a number of bus depots.  The bus depot  was in urgent need of a heating upgrade. The main workshop on site in Eastleigh is 1,150m². The two existing floor standing cabinet heaters had been condemned and replacing them like for like wasn’t an option. Gas fired appliances must be 1.8m off the ground in vehicle workshops.

Solution:

Industrial Heaters installed a Powrmatic CPx250UF gas fired cabinet heater and a Powrmatic LX70F 70kW gas fired suspended heater. A 2m high steel platform was made by  a local  fabricator in Lymington and delivered to the site. Along with lifting contractors from Southampton, our engineers carefully positioned the cabinet heater onto the platform in one corner of the workshop and a vertical flue system was installed. The suspended heater was installed and positioned in the opposite corner of the building and hung from a Uni-Strut frame with a horizontal flue system. Our engineers then upgraded the gas main to an 89mm stainless steel press fit – the gas main was installed at a high level. This also connected to other heating appliances in the building.

Result:

The client now has a modulating heating system to take the chill off in the coldest months of the year. The workshop has one main sliding door which the buses drive in and out of. Being a vehicle workshop, the door is in constant use 24/7, 7 days a week. Our engineers fitted a magnetic door switch which is wired back to the heating controls. When the door opens, the heaters stop firing, resulting in Workshop Technicians being mindful about keeping the door shut during the winter months. Ultimately this makes a huge saving on their gas bill!
